This year marks some important changes for EMPSF. As many of you know, our organization began in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) corporation with the important goal of improving patient safety in Emergency Medicine. In the last decade, emergency departments across the nation have emerged as the first line of medical defense, acting as the safety net for America’s insured and uninsured alike. With the recent financial crisis we see our challenges increase as the numbers of uninsured rise, access to pre-hospital care and public clinics is threatened by local budget crises, and health care institutions face increasing budgetary and management stress. During the course of this year, we have accelerated our activities and now, as 2009 comes to an end, are proud to launch a number of new opportunities for members to collaborate, seek solutions and think strategically about the future of Emergency Medicine.
